New Zealand Student Visa Requirements for International Students

To study in New Zealand, international students must prepare the following documents and comply with Immigration New Zealand (INZ) requirements:

1. Valid Passport

• Must be valid for the entire duration of your stay.

2. Offer of Place

• An official acceptance letter from a New Zealand education provider (e.g., EIT, Otago Polytechnic).

• Must include course name, duration, and confirmation of full-time enrollment.

3. Proof of Funds

Students must show they can financially support themselves:

• NZD 20,000 per year (or NZD 1,667 per month) for living expenses.

• Proof may include:

  • Bank statements

  • Sponsor’s financial documents

  • Scholarship letter

  • Guaranteed Income form

4. Tuition Fee Evidence

• Receipt of payment or

• Proof of ability to pay tuition fees upon arrival.

5. Proof of Accommodation

• Confirmation of where you will stay in New Zealand (home stay, dormitory, or private housing).

6. Travel Arrangements

• A return ticket or proof of funds to purchase one.

7. Medical Requirements

Depending on your length of stay:

• Chest X-ray for stays over 6 months.

• Full medical exam for stays over 12 months.

• Must be done by an INZ-approved panel physician.

8. Police Clearance Certificate

• Required if you are 17+ years old and studying for 24 months or longer.

9. English Language Ability (If Required by School)

10. Visa Application Form
